Our story
Faithful worship on North Street.
The Missionary Church of Groton is a nondenominational Christian fellowship serving Groton, Connecticut. Also known in the community as the Missionary Church of God in Christ, we open our doors on North Street week after week for worship, teaching, and the ordinary work of caring for one another.
We're not a large church, and that's part of the gift. Visitors are noticed and welcomed rather than lost in a crowd. Members share meals, pray through hard seasons together, and show up when a neighbor needs help.
Alongside our Sunday gatherings we observe seasonal and biblical celebrations through the year, including the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) and our annual Watchnight service as one year turns into the next.
Founders
Rev. George & Jeannie Rucker
The Missionary Church of Groton was founded by Rev. George and Jeannie Rucker, whose pastoral care and vision continue to shape this congregation on North Street.
Together they have led the church in worship, teaching, and neighborly service, building a fellowship where people are known by name and carried in prayer.
Our pastors
Pastor Adewale & 1st Lady Catherine Olokodana
Pastor Adewale and 1st Lady Catherine Olokodana shepherd the Missionary Church of Groton with warmth and faithfulness, welcoming neighbors, teaching the Word, and caring for the flock week by week.
Under their leadership the congregation gathers for Sunday School and Midday Worship, serves at area meal centers, and keeps North Street a place of prayer and open doors.
What we believe
Simple convictions, held together
We are a nondenominational church, united around the essentials of the Christian faith rather than a single denominational tradition.
Jesus Christ
We proclaim Jesus Christ, crucified, risen, and returning, as Lord and Savior of all who believe.
The Holy Spirit
We depend on the Holy Spirit to convict, comfort, and empower the church for worship and witness.
The Church
We believe the church is a family, not an audience, called to gather, pray, and carry each other's burdens.
Mission
We are sent people. The Gospel we receive on Sunday is meant to be lived out in Groton all week long.

Your first visit
What to expect on a Sunday
Common questions from people planning a first visit.
Sunday School begins at 10:00 AM and Midday Worship at 11:30 AM. If you're coming for worship only, arriving around 11:15 AM gives you time to park, say hello, and find a seat before we begin.
Whatever you're comfortable in. You'll see everything from Sunday best to jeans in our pews, and nobody will think twice about it either way.
We're at 94 North Street in Groton, with street parking available nearby. If you have trouble finding the building, give us a call and we'll walk you in from wherever you are.
Yes, Sunday School at 10:00 AM includes classes for children and youth, and children are always welcome to stay with their families during worship. Wiggles and noise don't bother us.
Midday Worship generally runs about 90 minutes, including singing, prayer, and the sermon. Many folks stay afterward to talk, and you're welcome to slip out quietly if you need to.
